Minimalism isn’t about empty scenes, it’s about disciplined choices.
In this half-day workshop, we’ll apply the principles of simplicity in a live environment, learning how to remove visual clutter, isolate subjects, and build balanced compositions with purpose. We’ll focus on the fundamental design elements of line, shape, light, and shadow and how they work together to strengthen visual storytelling.
Through guided challenges and real-time feedback, photographers of all skill levels will learn to slow down, create with intention, and account for every element within the frame.
By the end of this half-day session, participants will be able to:
- Identify and eliminate visual clutter in complex scenes to create stronger, cleaner compositions.
- Use line, shape, light, and shadow intentionally to guide the viewer’s eye and build visual balance.
- Apply negative space with purpose to enhance mood, scale, and storytelling impact.
- Slow down their shooting process and make deliberate compositional decisions in-camera.
- Account for every element within the frame, understanding how each inclusion or exclusion affects the final image.
There will be two walks, one in the morning, the other in the afternoon. Each workshop will be limited to 12 participants. Location will be at the Forks and the surrounding area. Meeting point will be announced on Saturday.
Anyone who would like to meet up for a beverage on Sunday in the Common at the Forks after the final workshop is welcome.
